I've recently moved from the Boston area to the Bethesda area and while there are many things different about this new locale, there are some things I've found that have made the transition a little easier.
While it may seem insignificant, I've found familiarity with retail chain stores to be quite comforting. Its not news that human beings appreciate consistency, and that is why many chain stores strive to maintain a common brand experience throughout their stores. Why? It works!
If everything were the same though, things would get a little boring, so its nice when a retailer gets to know what makes their community different, and celebrates it.
Here's a few retailers which I've found to provide an impressive level of consistency, while subtly customizing their environment to fit their surroundings:
Its harder than it sounds, and as I wrote that tiny list, I was thinking that each retailer could certainly do a better job of getting to know its local customers.
