Macy's Closing Nine Stores

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Macy’s is closing nine stores. They bought some competitors recently, including a Filene’s department store at a nearby mall. The mall already featured a Macy’s, so they closed the Filene’s.

What do you think is replacing the Filene’s? What else but a Nordstrom! My sister is a fan of Nordstrom, and given how skillful a shopper she is, I imagine that they will be a tough competitor for Macy’s at our local mall.

Not too far away, they are also building a Target department store. Target and Macy’s have different customer bases around here, but I have a feeling that Target might attract some of Macy’s customers.
