That’s right - more credit card fraud, just what this country needs. Not only are we putting ourselves into greater debt, other people are doing for us too! One of the worst cases of stolen credit card and bank card information came from TJX Corporation, parent company of Marshall’s, TJMaxx and Home Goods. Companies are obligated to notify its customers when this happens and TJX really dragged their feet. It took months to come out, then there was the inaccuracy of the number of people affected.
Now comes the news that an employee at Fidelity National stole consumer credit information and sold it to a marketing firm:
Fidelity National is reporting that a large number of its customer’s information was illegally sold to a marketing firm by one of its employees.
They maintain there was no fraudulent activity, just unsolicited marketing from the buyer, seems fishy to put out a big story about it over unsolicited marketing. I am skeptical, I wonder if more will leak out and be worse like the TJX breach was. There needs to be more than just an obligation to report to the public. There just isn’t great enough protection by the federal government nor great enough punishment for the crime for the perpetrators. The government does a wonderful protecting big companies, but what about us, the little guys. We need protection from the scoundrels who are lurking on the internet and sometimes in the office buildings waiting to steal our information and put us deeper in the credit dumps.
